Dear Friends of the Gene Nastri School,
Exciting new changes are happening! The Gene Nastri School has been serving the community of Mukilteo, Everett and beyond since 1984, when we first offered music classes during the summer at Forest Park. Starting in 1993, we also offered lessons during the school year at the old Rosehill Center. When it was torn down and rebuilt in 2012, we moved to our current location on the Mukilteo Speedway. We are now planning our next move to shared space within the Mukilteo/Harbour Pointe community by March or April! We will update you with more details in February.
Scheduling lessons will soon become much easier! We will be moving to an online scheduling and payment system that will allow you to schedule lessons online with the teacher of your choice, either as a single lesson or a block of lessons on a subscription basis. Both in-person and remote lessons can be scheduled this way. Billing is integrated, and your card is charged at the time of the lesson or class. Lessons can be moved online or rescheduled as long as prior notice is given.
Many of our teachers are also performing artists, and the pandemic has hit them hard. Live performances mostly disappeared for over a year, erasing months of income for live artists and the arts organizations they work for. We value our teachers, so with the return of in-person lessons at the Gene Nastri School, we implemented a pay raise for our teachers to bring their pay up to current market rate. The pandemic also hit the Gene Nastri School hard, with no tuition income from April 2020 through July 2021. To keep our margins the same, tuition will need to be raised accordingly. Monthly tuition starting in February will be an additional $15/month for 20 minute lessons, $20/month for 30 minute lessons, $30/month for 45 minute lessons, and $40/month for hour lessons.
Our new violin teacher Carolyn Canfield is accepting students now, from beginners to advanced. You can find her biography on our website. Please share the news with friends or family who might be looking for a teacher for their violin or viola student. We have teachers for violin, viola, cello, piano, guitar, voice, and composition. Wind instrument lessons are available remotely for flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, and euphonium.
We also value you, our students and parents! Thank you for supporting your student and their study of music. As you know, studying music builds confidence, reduces stress and anxiety, and develops creative thinking, all of which are important, especially now.
Best wishes,
Julie Buetow, Director
Gene Nastri Community School of Music
Be assured that we follow all state and county Covid-19 health guidelines. You can find our Covid-19 safety policies here. In summary, students, parents and visitors must self-screen for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 before arriving at the School. Stay home if you are sick or suspect you have COVID symptoms. Masks must be properly worn by all people inside the building except for children under 3.
