Lesson Policies for Private students
Registration and Fees:
Payment: Tuition is charged on a monthly basis. Tuition for all lessons scheduled in a month must be paid for by the first lesson of the month, or no later than the 10th of the month. We prefer online payment; however, payment may also be made by check and mailed to our PO Box. If tuition is not paid by the 10th of the month, a $10 late fee is applied to the account. Tuition not paid by the end of a month will result in the suspension of lessons until the account is current.
Scheduling: We follow the Mukilteo School District calendar. Lessons are offered when school is in session, and breaks are observed during school district holidays. We recommend starting lessons at the beginning of a month. New students are welcome at any time of the year. In case of inclement weather, we will follow Mukilteo School District's lead, and lessons will be rescheduled. We will notify you of the closure via email and will also post news on our Facebook and Twitter feeds. Contact your teacher or the school (info@genenastrischool.org or 425-789-1097) with any questions or scheduling issues.
Attendance: is expected at every lesson scheduled. In order for students to make progress on their instrument and minimize frustration, especially for beginners, we highly recommend weekly lessons. No refunds are given for no-shows or lessons canceled within 12 hours of the lesson, except in cases of illness or emergency. Lessons may be rescheduled if advance notice is given. Students are expected to make-up missed lessons within one month or the lesson and payment will be forfeited unless arrangements are made ahead of time.
Substitute Teachers: Many of our teachers are performing artists, and performance schedules sometimes conflict with lessons. We recognize that consistency is an important aspect of musical growth; therefore, teachers will offer make-up lessons in case of missed lessons due to teacher schedule conflicts.
Required Study Materials: Students will need to provide their own instrument and music, and should have a music stand available for practice at home. A metronome for student use is also recommended as well as a tuner for all but piano students. Student instruments should be maintained in good playing condition and be properly fitted. For stringed instruments, we recommend Kenmore Violins in Kenmore, or Henry Bischofberger Violins in Kirkland. For wind instruments, we recommend Kennelly Keys in Everett or Lynnwood. Online options are also available, such as Shar Music for strings. Please ask your teacher for recommendations. Study materials can be purchased at Kennelly Keys in Everett or Lynnwood as well as online. In order for your student to make progress, regular daily practice is expected. Your child's teacher will let you know how much practice time is expected, based on student's age and instrument.
Changing Teachers/Suspending Lessons: If you wish to change teachers, please email the office at info@genenastrischool.org or by phone at 425-789-1097. Please notify your teacher and the school if you are suspending lessons. No refunds are given for a partial month's tuition. We appreciate two weeks advance notice. If no notice is given, you will continue to be billed for lessons.
Thank you for being a part of our school. We wish you an excellent year and great musical progress!
- All new students must submit a registration form.
- An annual $30 registration fee is due each September. The registration fee helps pay for staff and overhead costs.
- A $15 recital fee is due 2 weeks before each recital. The recital fee covers recital costs for student recitals. Recitals are an important part of our program as both a motivating and confidence-building experience. Two recitals are scheduled each year, and are typically held in late January and early June. (See our events page.) Students are expected to participate in recitals. *Please note that registration and recital fees are nonrefundable.
